New “Egg Bank” Opens in London

London

A new service is on the menu at London Women’s Clinic: egg banking. While oocyte freezing and egg donation is already utilized in many British fertility centers; this will be the first operation entirely devoted to the process.

The new “egg bank” will focus solely on egg freezing and egg donation; making it a one stop shop for women who would like to put their fertility on hold or for those women who need an egg donor to become pregnant. Since its soft opening in January of this year, the clinic has had 60 patients donate eggs, which has resulted in 40 pregnancies.

For those who are freezing or utilizing the egg donation program, treatment can costs upwards of $10,000. Women who choose to donate their eggs will receive around $1200 per cycle. The clinic’s egg donation side will operate like a sperm bank, allowing recipients to choose a donor based on physical features and intelligence.

"We are hoping to inform women about egg donation and to make it simpler," said Dr. Kamal Ahuja, director of the clinic.

The new London egg bank will officially open on September 21st.
